HOW TO: BREAK YOUR FAST IN STYLE

Breakfast

Breakfast has become a sacred ritual. We cherish those few rare moments of blissful quiet that only comes first thing in the morning. Breakfast time is all about messy hair, oversized shirts and flicking through the glossy pages of Vogue. Whether you love photography, fashion, beauty, fitness or travel, decide what you’re feeling inspired by each day and roll with it. We love to a blend food, fashion and of course, coffee first thing to create the ideal breakfast atmosphere. Our mornings involve cute coffee table art and delicious soul food.

Coffee Table Art (2)

Breaking your fast in style calms the mind for the day ahead. Set the mood with some awesome coffee table Feng Shui. It can be as humble as a sweet flower arrangement or a colour popping fruit bowl. We love to surround ourselves with the oh-so-pretty things in life at breakfast time such as new outfit ideas and amazing accessories. These charming details allow you to re-establish a love for the simple things. Take a soothing break from the daily chaos and create a reason to look forward to waking up.

There’s nothing better than a healthy, nutritious and mouth-watering breakfast to start your day. Breakfast is essential, there’s just no getting around it. Having a proper feed first thing kick starts your digestion, metabolism and feeds your body the necessary vitamins and minerals it needs to function at its best. Indulge in our super delicious brekkie ideas that help make the morning your favorite time of the day. We deliver you some soul foods that frequently feature in our morning routine.

Soul Food1

Bircher, black tea and The Sartorialist is an unbeatable morning combination. A nourishing Bircher bowl can be achieved by simply mixing rolled oats with nuts, seeds and coconut flakes. Soak in your preferred milk or coconut water and yoghurt overnight. Bircher muesli can be made and stored in the fridge for several days, so why not make a big batch to get you through the week? You can also play pick ‘n’ mix with the ingredients for more variety. Goji berries, dates, dried apricots, grated apple, blueberries, chia seeds and roasted almonds are great mix-in ideas.

Soul Food2

Sugar hit anyone? French toast is an indulgent breakfast that truly nourishes the soul. This European classic can be done in a healthy way, we promise! Try sourdough bread soaked in a mix of eggs, milk and cinnamon, lightly fried in coconut oil. To serve we recommend a drizzle of raw honey, topped with fresh fruit of your choice. Banana and blueberries is always a winning combo.

Lets be honest…any combination of fine food and fashion will get us every time. Who would want to eat a plain peice of toast watching the news (boring!) when you could be enjoying decadent bircher muesli, a chai latte and the latest digest of Garance Dore? That is certainly our kind of morning.

How To: Add a little Pop to your Summer

POPS3

It seems as though this Frozen Yogurt aka FROYO craze just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Look I am not complaining, it has certainly made a feature in my summer diet over the last two summers. Who am I kidding? I FROYO all year round. So much so, that the term FROYO itself has made the rather odd but occasional transition from a noun into a verb. “Oh hey I am just going to go FROYO, want to come?” “Do you FROYO?” “Of course I FROYO!” Well now you can FROYO yourself at home with my delicious popsicle recipe. So prepare yourselves for a damn delicious summer treat with my HANDSOME POPS OF FROYO.

What you will need:

1-2 cups of organic plain or vanilla yogurt
Half cup of mixed summer fruit eg Berries, Peach, banana, watermelon, Mango
1 tablespoon of Honey
½ tablespoon of lemon juice (optional)
6-8 small paper cups
Foil
Wooden popsicle sticks
Blender

pops1

What you will need to do:

1. Add selected fruits, honey and lemon juice, to the yogurt in a blender. Blend until desired consistency.
2. Put the paper cups onto a plate or a flat tray. Cut strips of foil big enough to cover each cup individually.
3. Pour mixture into the cups at about ¾ full. Add left over pieces of fruit if desired.
4. Once the cups are filled cover each cup with foil and make a small slit in the centre of the foil where the wooden popsicle stick will go. This will help to hold the popsicle stick in place while the yogurt freezes.
5. Add the popsicle sticks and place the FROYO pops into the freezer. Once your FROYO Pops are done, just peel back the foil and paper and enjoy! Simple, easy, fun and delicious.

So there you have it. FROYO has made its way into the hearts of people all around the world and now you can have it whenever and however you want.

The affair that was the Juice Cleanse

Armadale_Store_small

I had always wanted to try a juice cleanse but my follow through never exceeded my curiosity, until recently. After weeks of being sick and on antibiotics, not to mention a few bad food binges and alcohol consumption, I decided that I was perfect candidate for a juice cleanse. I had previously done a lot of research into this area and found a few companies that were highly recommended. However, I needed to do this on a budget, a budget of a maximum 200 dollars. I thought I would never find a cleanse that would suit my bank balance, as many I had researched were quite expensive, some even double what I was wanting to pay. As I recently started following the newly developed and highly praised Pressed Juices on Instagram, I thought I would head down to their Hawthorn store, to see what it is all about.

Coco Loco

So I have been hearing so much about this virgin coconut oil craze lately, that I decided to look into it myself. A little research and I found the health and wellbeing benefits are more than I could have imagined.

One of the most amazing things about virgin coconut oil is that it has multiple uses. For me, the benefits it has on my skin and hair are far beyond anything I have seen before.  Applying it topically as a body oil and moisturiser, will help to provide balance and smooth out your skin. Not to mention adding a teaspoon of brown sugar and you have yourself a delicious exfoliating scrub that is good enough to eat (I am not joking! You can actually eat it). Finally adding it to your shampoo and conditioner, allows broken or damaged hair to absorb the nutrient rich oil, adding moisture and shine. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t want luscious locks?

Axe Restaurant, Los Angeles

Sometimes the best discoveries are made when we get completely lost. This is the case for how I came across a fantastic restaurant while vaycaying in Los Angeles recently. On my way back to another restaurant – it was so good, I was trying to go back again – I decided to turn up a different street and weave my way through an area I hadn’t seen before. This ended up being one of the best mistakes I could have made. I got completely lost and stumbled across Axe Restaurant, located at the foot of trendy Abbott Kinney Drive in Venice, LA.
