Axe Restaurant, Los Angeles

Sometimes the best discoveries are made when we get completely lost. This is the case for how I came across a fantastic restaurant while vaycaying in Los Angeles recently. On my way back to another restaurant – it was so good, I was trying to go back again – I decided to turn up a different street and weave my way through an area I hadn’t seen before. This ended up being one of the best mistakes I could have made. I got completely lost and stumbled across Axe Restaurant, located at the foot of trendy Abbott Kinney Drive in Venice, LA.

Bat For Lashes

Many moons ago when I was living in London, I fell in love with Brit singer-songwriter and musician, Natasha Khan, or Bat For Lashes, as she is better known.  This girl is something of a musical powerhouse, not only can she sing but she also plays the piano, bass, guitar, harpsichord and autoharp. So when I heard she was coming to town as part of Vivid Sydney a few years ago I jumped at the chance to see her perform live at Sydney Opera House. She was amazing; a velvet voice and pop beats mixed with a symphonic sound She also rocks some pretty cool costumes on stage too.

Myth by Beach House

A rainy day is the perfect excuse to stay indoors and listen to the new Beach House album, Bloom. I’m loving the cruisy, dreamy sounds of ‘Myth’. Keep a musical eye on this indie duo – my prediction is we’ll be hearing a lot more of them in the coming months.

Florence + The Machine at Coachella 2012

Still on a high from Coachella, one musician has stuck in my mind and although the desert dust has now settled, I still have her songs playing on constant repeat. I am, of course, talking about Florence + the Machine. Florence Welch and her band gave an absolutely killer performance that I’ll be remembering for a long time to come. But it wasn’t just about the music, the highly acclaimed songstress completed her theatrical stage presence with an amazing costume designed and made for her by London designer, Hannah Marshall, just two weeks before the festival! Check out the raven-like suit and cape creation, Swarovski detailing giving her an extra element of sparkle.

Coachella

As Tricha mentioned a few days ago, she just spent the weekend making us all jealous as anything at Coachella. Sigh. Well, she sent us through some beautiful pictures to just make our sighs even louder. Maybe next year…..
