So I have been hearing so much about this virgin coconut oil craze lately, that I decided to look into it myself. A little research and I found the health and wellbeing benefits are more than I could have imagined.
One of the most amazing things about virgin coconut oil is that it has multiple uses. For me, the benefits it has on my skin and hair are far beyond anything I have seen before. Applying it topically as a body oil and moisturiser, will help to provide balance and smooth out your skin. Not to mention adding a teaspoon of brown sugar and you have yourself a delicious exfoliating scrub that is good enough to eat (I am not joking! You can actually eat it). Finally adding it to your shampoo and conditioner, allows broken or damaged hair to absorb the nutrient rich oil, adding moisture and shine. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t want luscious locks?
Obviously it not only works wonders topically. By incorporating virgin coconut oil into your diet the nutrients feed your body, skin and mind internally. Added bonus, it is delicious. Ladies and gents I feel like we have hit the jackpot with this one. Surely something that tastes so good, feels so amazing on your skin and smells divine can’t actually be that good for you? I don’t believe it. Someone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes, I know it.
Turns out, not so much. It has been used in traditional medicines for thousands of years and western medicine for just 60 (a little slow on the uptake). I am not a scientist and I obviously I won’t bore you with details of the composition of virgin coconut oil, but if you look into the benefits of lauric acid, you may just be turned into a virgin coconut oil enthusiast.
As we live in such a fast paced society, we tend to forget about our health and wellbeing and opt for the quick and easy fix, fad or diet. Too often it gets put by the wayside behind menial and trivial matters. But what we need to remember is that without our health, we would not have such a life to enjoy. If altering one little thing, like introducing virgin coconut oil to your routine, helps to provide balance and long lasting health benefits, why wouldn’t you do it? Besides everyone wants gorgeous skin and shiny luscious hair.
So make a conscious decision that says, I care about my health and wellbeing.
