Supporting local design is incredibly important to us and we always get a little bit excited when our creative and talented friends produce something special. We chatted to the gorgeous, down to earth and sun seeking babe Krystle Knight, designer and founder of Krystle Knight Jewellery about her latest collection of fine crystal jewels, her inspirations and love for the never ending summer. Vibrant, energetic and with a smile on her face, here is what she had say..

Congratulations on the success of Krystle Knight Jewellery! What inspired you to go out on our own and create this label?

Thank you, it has all really happened very organically, which is so amazing, it really does blow my mind daily!

After working in fashion wholesale for 7 years, the opportunity came up to start working on something for myself and I took it. It has all been a matter of perfect timing!

What is the ethos behind KKJ? What sets it apart from others out there?

KKJ’s aesthetic is simple, cool and effortless. I am continually inspired by simple styling that shows of the natural beauty of the crystals.

I work mainly with clear quartz crystals, which is definitely my favourite crystal. It is known to be the master healer of all crystals. It works on all areas of the body, awakening, amplifying and transmitting energy, as well as clarifying the thought processes. It is also perfect for removing negative energies & a powerful healing stone for any condition or state of mind.  A strong belief in this is what makes KKJ different.

You have worked with some very talented creatives within the industry. Tell us how important that has been to the exposure of Krystle Knight?

I have been so fortunate to collaborate with so many amazing creatives in this industry. What I love about it all, is that everyone is there to support one another and help each other with their brands exposure. It is so amazing to see and also to be involved in. We have a few different collaborations coming up and this is all apart of developing a creative culture and community.

Social media is redefining the way we see style and the way we create style, how has social media impacted your brand?

Social media is really incredible. It allows access to so many talented, creative people  from across the world and acts as a platform to connect with like minded people & brands. I have such great support on social media, it truly is amazing, it really has allowed KKJ to grow to where it is today.

The introduction of colour and neon hues in the new collection feels playful and innovative. What inspired you when creating this collection?

I always loved a pop of neon. I don’t go anywhere without my neon nail polish on.

Travelling to different tropical locations growing up, I always found myself coming home with a bunch of neon bracelets on my wrist.

I guess neon really is the epitome of Summer; so it made sense to be able to offer some affordable fun pieces & tie them back with our crystals. You will start to see more neon in our coming collections, stay tuned

Where do you seek inspiration from?

I am continually inspired by Summer (of course) and the elemental beauty of nature. When designing I want to show off the natural beauty of each crystal and transform this into simple, wearable, statement pieces.

We know you are a summer baby just like us. If you could chase the never ending summer where would you start?

My go to spot is always Bali! However, I am spicing things up this month and taking a quick European vacation.

I often consider make-up a good investment. I have my reasons. I am not a morning person at the best of times, scratch that, I am not a morning person at all. So when I have to get up early, its unavoidable that I wake up with dark circles under my eyes and that not quite coherent look on my face.

A good make-up can fix all my worries and have me transformed from half asleep to wide awake in no time. An application of mineral powder, a layer of mascara and a pop of colour on my lips and I am ready to go. Without a doubt I on a daily basis, including those early mornings, Maybelline NY has my back. Trustworthy, old faithful.

SNACK ATTACK

You’ve had our Handsome Pops of Froyo and yes they are delicious, but we are currently obsessing over chocolate coated ice-creams. Not just any ice-creams. Connoisseur dessert ice-creams. HEAVEN!

Whether we are in the Maldives shooting our latest campaign, working hard at WAH HQ or running around backstage at our Fashion Week Show, Connoisseur ice-creams are our favourite snack to keep away the hunger and give us some energy to keep going.

The best part is, it never gets boring. So many flavours…! Personally on any given day I will choose Vanilla (I like the classics) and if I want to spice it up I will head on over to Salted Caramel (TO DIE FOR) but if I wanted something new, there would be no issue. The only problem is stopping myself from splurging and eating all the flavours in one day. With WAH HQ’s freezer full of ice-cream, it tends to be hard not too.

We thought that we should share our obsession this year with our guests at Fashion Week. All of our guests were given the opportunity to try their favourite flavour whilst watching our latest collection hit the runway. A delicious way to enjoy the show. We certainly think so.

As children our favourite and most exciting snack was always ice-cream. The sound of the ice-cream truck in our streets sent us crazy, the excitement we got when Mum or Dad yelled ‘Dessert time’  was unparalleled…..I guess now that we have grown up…nothing has changed.

Here at WAH we love our jewellery. Rings, cuffs, necklaces, we have a slight obsession. Pair this with an affinity towards animal print…..like you didn’t notice already…and you have the perfect combination.

This year we teamed up with the talented Alex Smyth-Kirk from boutique jewellery label Vera Xane for a very handsome collaboration. First starting her studies of gold and silver smithing at the young age of 17, Alex has always had a passion for jewellery and the creation of beautiful unique pieces. Inspired by pop culture, rock n roll, innovative fashion trends and cultural architecture, Alex took on the challenge of creating her own label in 2011, having nothing but success since.

Her talent caught our eye so much that we decided to work with Alex to help provide the final touches on our latest campaign shoot Oddessey Rising in The Maldives as well as creating custom made WAH inspired pieces for our runway ready looks at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The runway collection featured pineapple rings, birds of prey necklaces, cuff like belts with a fierce rendition of our tiger print, tropical palm trees and watermelons for earrings and quirky lobsters to make a statement. Each piece matched the essence of what We Are Handsome are all about and added to the fun, summer vibe of our runway.

TROPICAL TANS

Whilst we love to chase the never ending summer and catching a tan whilst doing so, we know that it can’t be summer for everyone and even if it is, you must make sure that you aren’t exposing your skin to potential sun damage. That’s why we always look for that extra glow with a little bit of fake tan.

There is no shame in rocking the faux tan, in fact we  LOVE that we can achieve the same sun-kissed, beach babe look from a cream or liquid, without having to lather on the sunscreen or endure the pain of sunburn and recovery time. NOT to mention, creating crazy tan lines because you accidentally missed spot on your back or ended up with a handprint from the old slap stick application approach. No thank you! This whole fake tan thing sounds about right to us.

Which is why every year we make sure our model babes at the We Are Handsome MBFWA runway, and not to mention our campaign “workation” to the Maldives, are rocking the best tropical tans with the help from our awesome friends over at St Tropez. And why wouldn’t we? They are the go to experts on the subject of tanning, whether we are applying backstage or inn our bathroom, their expertise is not glossed over. Just the other day they taught us how to apply fake tan to our face without making mistakes or causing breakouts!

Golden, deep bronzed, beach babin’ bodies? Check! No risk of skin cancer?  Check! Well we are all set to go with what will be a sun kissed runway.

We have been following the very cute and talented Melbourne based designer of LimeDrop Clea Garrick for a while now. We love her quirky and playful designs and admire her creative talent. This weeks feature at VAMFF on the Shop ‘Til You Drop Runway reinforced exactly why we love this label.

Perfect for the party vibe of the Shop runway, the vibes from Limedrop were nothing but fun and flirty with playful florals, 1950s ice cream pastels, swing skirts, plastic sun visors and of course the super cute fun glasses. Pairing this with metallic shimmers, structured cut outs and geometric jewels, Limedrop brought edge to the sweet, the innocent, the playful. The collecion is quintessentially Clea, chanelling notions of individualism, the fantastic and freedom in creativity.

There is just something about this label that keeps us coming back. Whether its the bold designs or mischevious prints, the garments capture a sense of wonder, imagination and discovery. Our pick? The Silver Lining Cut out Dress. Too in love to choose a colour. And why would we? Black or Lilac are both divine. We also wouldn’t mind The Clisen Skirt, a perfect Autumn addtion to our wardrobe.

Make up. Practically an essential for any woman, of any age. With the right attitude we can all be fierce and ‘Flawless’  as so finely put by WAH babe Queen BEY Beyonce! But by using a good makeup, we can look just as flawless as we feel.

More than a Bangle

So I have found something really special and extremely cool, that I cannot keep it to myself any longer. At a recent Christmas party, I met the ever so fabulous Melbourne jewellery designer Johan Hermijanto. Having a love for unique jewellery, I took a look at his label L’ABATTOIR de PLASTIQUE and I was blown away. Which is why I felt a moral obligation to share his work with you.

With a background in architecture and design, it was only natural for Johan to mirror his love for geometric patterns within his jewellery and of course be creative in the construction of each piece. The collection is a series of five octagonal geometric bangles, which are crafted out of Molten Biodegradable plastic. This is only half of what makes the collection so special. Each piece is constructed by a 3D printing machine, compression air packed and delivered to you. Now for those of you who are not aware of what a 3D printing machine actually is, it is a technology that takes a digital design and creates a three dimensional object by adding one layer of material at a time.

Not only do I find the process fascinating but the bangles themselves are stunning. The strong architectural influence really make the pieces unique. The range comes in many colours and also includes a clear transparent look. My pick? Bangle 1203 in Clear. It is versatile and can be worn with almost anything.

• Delivery is via FedEx Smart Post (with tracking) and generally takes 2-7 business days – it costs $5 USD.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GARMENT?

Although our garments may make you feel invincible, the swimsuit itself is rather delicate.

Make sure you follow these easy steps to make sure your piece of We Are Handsome stays with you forever!

  • Use a mild detergent while hand washing it separately in cold water.
  • Pretty please don’t tumble dry, wring, soak or bleach your garment (that’s just cruel), it’s best to let it dry in the shade.
  • Try not to leave it rolled up and wet, make sure you rinse it really well after each use, especially if you’re spending a lot of time frolicking in an infinity pool – or a non-infinity pool for that matter!
  • Please don’t iron or dry-clean it.
  • Also, try to stay away from rough surfaces as it could cause pilling, and we all know that is not a good look.
