Fashion Week MINIMALISM

Minimalism was the aim of the game at last nights Melbourne Spring Fashion Week designer runway. Narrated by a story of Melbourne aesthetic, spring style and electro pop/psychedelic tunes, designs by the likes of Yeojin Bae, Alice McCall, LifeWithBird and our very own old roomies Kahlo were effortlessly chic and contemporary.

Alice McCall changed it up this season using more structured elements within her designs. Still paying homage to the traditional aesthetic we have all come to love, the use of architectural inspired tailoring saw McCall tread the line of playfulness and simplicity perfectly.

Yeojin Bae. What can I say? Brilliance. Every single year this gorgeous, creative human amazes me. With geometric silhouettes, cut out waistlines and asymmetric structures, Yeojin Bae is innovative and visually articulate. She is true to her creative vision and creates designs that reflect the contemporary female aesthetic.

LifeWithBird reinforced that pink, whether pastel or fuchsia, is here to stay this season. With laser cuts, sheer panelling and horizontal structures becoming a focus within the collection, the designs were distinct and conceptual. Designers Bridget McCall and Nicholas Van Messner have again created a simple, modern and inventive vision of style and design.

With our good friends over at Kahlo showing their latest collection at MSFW, we were incredibly excited to see what they had in store. Laid back, nonchalant, sport luxe and chic is everything Kahlo this season. Elegant yet understated, just the right amount of metallic paired with a monochrome palette and all of the layering perfection you could hope for. High neck lines, crops and simple structures gave the collection a sense of boyish charm and versatility. On point Kahlo, on point!

With minimalism trending now more than ever, these talented designers have created beautiful designs that ultimately reflect todays modern woman who seeks comfort, versatility and elegance. I’d say that all of those boxes were ticked.

Vittoria X We Are Handsome

It’s no secret that we generally don’t function at WAH HQ without our coffee fix in the mornings. As the saying goes we need coffee to coffee our coffee coffee coffee…um yep that sounds about right. Combine this with a good meal and afternoon thirst quenching mineral water and it’s a pretty good day in the office.

It seems as though at this years Mercedes Benz Fashion Week our guests agreed with us. With all the fashionistas, designers, journalists, bloggers and photographers running around from show to show, a good coffee and mineral water from our friends over at Vittoria was a saving grace for many at our runway. What can I say? We like to spoil our guests!

In teaming up with Vittoria again this year, we designed a series of take away cups covered in our latest prints from the upcoming and popular collections. Not only did our guests get their coffee fix using their printed cups, they got to take home their very own We Are Handsome keep cup. We figured… you like coffee, we like coffee, we both love animal prints, lets combine the two loves and make magic. A kind of WAH keepsake.

Generally with the busy lives we lead, constant hustle and bustle going on, most people are like ‘Hey just stop and smell the roses every once in while’…roses?? I think i’d prefer to stop and smell the coffee. Ain’t nothing like it.

Make me up

I often consider make-up a good investment. I have my reasons. I am not a morning person at the best of times, scratch that, I am not a morning person at all. So when I have to get up early, its unavoidable that I wake up with dark circles under my eyes and that not quite coherent look on my face.

A good make-up can fix all my worries and have me transformed from half asleep to wide awake in no time. An application of mineral powder, a layer of mascara and a pop of colour on my lips and I am ready to go. Without a doubt I on a daily basis, including those early mornings, Maybelline NY has my back. Trustworthy, old faithful.
