There is just something about a summer romance that makes us smile. The fun, flirty nature of a warm summer evening can provide the perfect setting for a romantic date. From a stunning sunset, to a lazy picnic by the beach summer just makes everything better. So indulge us. Here are our top 5 perfect summer dates.

1. Laneway Hopping

Starting early on in the evening, a cute laneway hopping date will feed all the senses. Taste testing the best your city’s laneways, underground restaurants and bars have to offer, is a super cute way to get to know your date. Walking around the laneways and city means you have plenty of time to really talk to each other (whilst admiring the fine architecture of course), having a number of eating options allows you to get to know your dates preferences when it comes to being a foodie (bonus info for future dates) and you get to taste the best your city has to offer providing you with an epic food envy story post date debrief (aka gossip) with friends.

2. Lazy Afternoon Picnic

This laid back yet tres chic picnic is the perfect setting for any date, whether it is your first or your 100th. It really is the traditional simple efforts that get us. It is timeless really. A Picnic rug. A Food spread. Champagne and strawberries. Lazing about looking up at the clouds. Perfect date bliss.

3. Get your SUP on

Stand up Paddle boarding on a summer day is an amazing and fun date acitvity. And why wouldnt it be! Sunshine? Check. Beach? Check. Fitness? Check. Good Company? Check.

Obviously we wouldn’t reccommend this on a first date (only if you’re keen), but if you do your planning right and find a gorgeous little inlet to paddle in to, this date will be truly memorable for everyone. Imagine paddling out, sitting on the board and watching the sunset fade away, melting from peach, to orange to red to yellow where the sky meets the depths of the ocean. A simple, stunning memorable end to a summer date.

4. Pool Hangs

Unless you have a pool, heading down to your local public pool can be an awesome, easy and fun hot summer date. Being at a public pool takes me back to when I was a kid. The cool tunes, sunshine, waterslides, sunnyboys and cornettos. Ah the memories! Now your date may be a little more PG than G rated but an afternoon of sunshine, good conversation, summer treats and dips in the pool is too good an offer to pass up.

5. Go for Gelato

What a cute date to cool off on a summer day. A wise man once said ‘Without Gelato there would be Darkness and Chaos’, well something similar to that effect anyway, but we sure do agree. Whether it is a post dinner dessert or a meal in itself, there is always room for gelato.

Remember summer only lasts for 3 months of the year, so make the most of every summer date because summer memories are the very best memories.

How to: Get Perfect Beach Curls

I’ve always loved the look of my hair after a long day at the beach. The invigorating salt, creates such a natural wave and curl that I have always wished to create on my own. Recently a friend gave me the perfect recipe for creating the very best beach curls. The best part? It is full of organic goodness for my hair and NO horrible heat tools are needed.

SO here it is. Tried and tested by me: THE PERFECT BEACH CURL CONCOCTION

What you will need:

1 Spray Bottle

3-4 tablespoons of Sea salt (this will achieve the crisp beachy look)

2-3 pumps of organic water based hair gel

1/2 teaspoon of organic Coconut based conditioning and styling creme (avoid too much as it will weigh down your hair)

2 drops of an essential oil of your choosing

What you need to do:

1. After washing your hair, towel dry and lightly blow wave until your hair is semi dry.

2. Add salt, conditioning creme, organic hair gel and droplets of oil into the spray bottle and fill with water. Shake the bottle well to mix.

3. Spray your hair until it is very damp. Using your fingers, scrunch your hair well or twist into curls and let your hair dry. For a more full on effect, braid or fish plait your hair until it dries.

4. When your hair is dry, use your fingers to maintain the curls. Add hairspray to hold if needed.

5. Rock your perfect beach curls!

WAH: Summer Series

Here at WAH HQ we love a Handsome Project. Seeming as we are all about summer and for us Southern Hemisphere inhabitants, summer has just hit home *pause for cheer* we thought it was only fitting to bring to you all the We Are Handsome: Summer Series.

So if you are a traveller entering the harsh sun south of the equator, a person who has a natural affinity with winter, a person who is pasty white, a person who loves a tan, someone who adores summer like us or in fact, if you are any human (non humans also welcome) these posts are definitely for you. We want to spread the summer love to everyone.

So without a doubt we give to you the very first in this series;

7 WAYS TO SURVIVE A HOT SUMMER DAY:

1. DRESS SUITABLY

Many people believe that the more clothes you wear the cooler you will be. I am here to tell you that this is a complete fallacy! I have walked around India, Pakistan and various parts of Asia covered up and I can tell you it is not ideal. But in saying that, let’s not be hasty and start walking around the shops in a bikini or along the side of the road topless. Unless you are Ryan Gosling, then by all means walk around topless, go right ahead! Choose clothing that will allow you to breathe and move around without being uncomfortable or sweating up a storm. Choose summer inspired fabrics and light colours to avoid heat attraction. It truly is as simple as that. If you cannot find something appropriate obviously we will be more than happy to help you update your wardrobe with one of our Handsome cover ups.

2. HYDRATE

Look we all know water is the best possible thing for you and you should drink plenty of it, but if a cocktail is on offer, you probably won’t say no. As a non alcoholic option you should jazz up some normal H20 with frozen berries or jump on the coconut water train. Coconut water is not only extremely delicious but it is full of potassium and good nutritious vitamins to keep you healthy and hydrated.

3. CRAFT A PAPER FAN

The menopausal women have the right idea. Make yourself a hand held fan that you can take everywhere with you. All you need is a popsicle stick and a paper plate. Simple.

4. BE SHADY

Yes we all know shade is important and avoiding excessive sun exposure is key….BUT you will most likely be out and about enjoying the sunshine. So if you happen to be on the beach, let’s not be one of those crazy people with the ugly and impossible beach tents. Invest in one of our Hideaway Beach Umbrellas. This will provide you will lots of shade and you will avoid those weird stares everyone gives you, when you are carrying a full size tent home because you couldn’t fold it back to its original form. Beach Umbrella for shade? Check!

5. DIVE INTO THE DEEP

It’s a no brainer kids. The ocean is cool, refreshing and healing.

6. RUN THROUGH A SPRINKLER

If you cannot reach the ocean or don’t have a pool to substitute, why not relive your childhood moments and run through a sprinkler.

7. Last but not least, SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE because sharing the good vibes around is what summer is all about.

More than a Bangle

So I have found something really special and extremely cool, that I cannot keep it to myself any longer. At a recent Christmas party, I met the ever so fabulous Melbourne jewellery designer Johan Hermijanto. Having a love for unique jewellery, I took a look at his label L’ABATTOIR de PLASTIQUE and I was blown away. Which is why I felt a moral obligation to share his work with you.

With a background in architecture and design, it was only natural for Johan to mirror his love for geometric patterns within his jewellery and of course be creative in the construction of each piece. The collection is a series of five octagonal geometric bangles, which are crafted out of Molten Biodegradable plastic. This is only half of what makes the collection so special. Each piece is constructed by a 3D printing machine, compression air packed and delivered to you. Now for those of you who are not aware of what a 3D printing machine actually is, it is a technology that takes a digital design and creates a three dimensional object by adding one layer of material at a time.

Not only do I find the process fascinating but the bangles themselves are stunning. The strong architectural influence really make the pieces unique. The range comes in many colours and also includes a clear transparent look. My pick? Bangle 1203 in Clear. It is versatile and can be worn with almost anything.

Limedrop. If you haven’t already checked out this quirky little fashion label, you really are doing yourself a disservice.

Created by the ever so talented and creative designer Clea Garrick in Melbourne 2006, the label has grown to become well known and valued for its free spirited essence and sustainable ethos. Showing on the coveted runways of Mercedes Benz, Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, featured in VOGUE Australia and being invited to participate in the Australian Fashion Excellence Showcase in London and Beijing, is surely just the beginning for Limedrop and Clea.

Although I love many of the labels pieces, some of my favourites are from the gorgeous Rosewood Jewellery collection.

A Bali Wanderer

It seems that upon my return from Bali I find myself reminiscing over sun kissed skin, tropical weather, jungle wandering, ocean swims and the sweet aroma of incense filling the air.

There is something so incredibly unique about Bali that just keeps calling me back.

Sass and Bide RESORT 13

The latest Resort13 collection ‘Greaty 180’ from Sass and Bide has us in a trance. There is a lot to be said about the elegance and flirtatious nature of the collection but it seems the campaign says it all. Featuring the stunning Cassi Van Den Dungen each photograph is fun, playful and clever. The garments strong structural elements seen through the use of darker hues, monochrome designs, metallic and lace, is perfectly paired with the whimsical yet raw background theme of the campaign. A Global Project

Here at We Are Handsome we often have the absolute pleasure of travelling around the world following an endless summer. With travel comes the valuable experience of seeing other cultures and ways of life. It genuinely broadens the mind and provides you with experiences to grow from as a person. One of the most valuable lessons I have learnt from travelling especially in third world countries, is not to take for granted our way of life back home. When faced with the reality of the immense poverty; 1.4 billion people struggle on a day to day basis to provide the basic human needs in life, it certainly puts things into perspective and little worries become instantly trivial.

It has also provoked the humanitarian within me and in my day to day efforts from fashion, blogging to teaching, I try to do my part by being informed of the current global climate and all that it encompasses from politics, economics, wars and famine. Having family whose background is from a third world country, the issue of extreme poverty and inequality is one I am an advocate for.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GARMENT?

Although our garments may make you feel invincible, the swimsuit itself is rather delicate.

Make sure you follow these easy steps to make sure your piece of We Are Handsome stays with you forever!

Use a mild detergent while hand washing it separately in cold water.
Pretty please don’t tumble dry, wring, soak or bleach your garment (that’s just cruel), it’s best to let it dry in the shade.
Try not to leave it rolled up and wet, make sure you rinse it really well after each use, especially if you’re spending a lot of time frolicking in an infinity pool – or a non-infinity pool for that matter!
Please don’t iron or dry-clean it.
Also, try to stay away from rough surfaces as it could cause pilling, and we all know that is not a good look.

RETURNS and ORDERS POLICY

You must notify WE ARE HANDSOME within 7 calendar days of accepting delivery of the order AND arrange return of the item/s within 7 calendar days after receiving our email authorizing the return.

To notify WE ARE HANDSOME, email your proof of purchase, being an invoice or email confirmation from WE ARE HANDSOME, to our customer service team at customerlove@wearehandsome.com .

All sale purchases are final and cannot be returned (including exchanges, credit notes and refunds). We kindly ask that you carefully consider your items before purchasing. Sale returns will only be accepted if the merchandise is faulty or wrongly described.

During sale periods where a discount code is used, any orders placed prior to the start time of the sale will not be eligible for the discount. THIS INCLUDES CURRENT SALE: 10TH Birthday Sale

Item/s must be unworn, unwashed and in the original sellable condition. All labels, packaging and hygiene stickers must be attached and in their original condition.

Customers are responsible for organising the shipment of returns including the cost to send the return back to us. WE ARE HANDSOME is not responsible for the shipment of returns and will not replace or process a return that is lost during shipment. We recommend shipping returns through a tracked service.

It is not the responsibility of WE ARE HANDSOME to pay or reimburse customers for any government import fees, taxes and/or charges that may be applied to orders. It is the responsibility of customers to be aware of and pay any such costs that their country may apply to imported goods.

Refunds are made to the credit card that was used to make the original purchase and are for the cost of items only. Shipping costs will not be refunded. Please allow 7 business days for the refund transaction to be completed back onto your card. We will contact you via the email address listed on your order when the refund has taken place.

For exchanges, we will require a shipping payment to be made prior to re-shipment. We will request this payment from you via PayPal. The charges are as follows:
- USA Domestic $10
- International Express $15 (International costs will be in the relevant currency)

Due to the select nature of our product, we cannot guarantee the availability of merchandise for exchanges

Once your return order has been received your order will be processed within 7 business days. During holiday periods/sale seasons it may take longer.

We do not accept returns from purchases made through our stockists. We can only process returns on purchases that were processed through our e-boutique.

Stock quantities are not updated in real time, and therefore occasionally an item may be sold out at time of purchase. If you purchase an item that is sold out, you will be notified by email as soon as possible and offered a suitable replacement or full refund.
