SUMMER FITNESS AERIAL YOGA

Now I am usually not one for yoga, I am more of a Pilates core training kinda gal, but recently a friend of mine started doing Aerial Yoga (anti Gravity) and she swears by it. So I thought, why not try it out! Incase you are’t too sure about it, or perhaps the name itself is enough to run for the hills, Aerial Yoga sees you hanging from the ceiling, on a hammock like apparatus. Yes, I believe I now have your attention.

Designed to let your body hang freely, Aerial Yoga aims to decompress your spine and vertebrae, as well as promote flexibility and strength. Now any ideas I may have had about this type of yoga, (think Monkey bar type of fun) were thrown out the window and it turns out, Aerial Yoga not so easy, but incredibly challenging, fun and addictive. It has fast become my favourite type of yoga (believe me I’ve done them all) and my go to summer fitness regime.

Aerial Yoga pushes you mentally and physically, using your own body weight in every pose. When you are in the midst of Aerial Yoga you are concentrating so very much and are acutely aware of every inch of your body, that the outside world simply falls away. You focus on you and you alone, because if you don’t you may end up smack bang on the floor. It may have been the only hour in my day, where I solely focused on myself and what my body was capable of. What I really enjoyed most about my experience, was how surprised I was with what my body could do. I have done yoga before, but the lightness of my body allowed me to move in ways I never have in a standard class. Combined with the incredible energy, this was certainly what made it interesting and fun.

Afternoon PIMMS

With the weather starting to warm up, the days are getting longer, meaning we get to enjoy the the sun shining into the evening. There is nothing like enjoying the sunshine with a jug of PIMMS and a bunch of friends. We have the perfect recipe for you to try this summer.

Ingredients:

8 thin slices cucumber
1/2 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, halved lengthways, thinly sliced
4 strawberries, hulled, washed, quartered
Handful of Blue Berries
4 small sprigs fresh mint
Ice cubes handful
125ml (1/2 cup) Pimm’s No. 1
250ml chilled ginger ale/beer
250ml lemonade

Method:

Well this is as simple as put all the ingredients in together and stir. It isn’t brain surgery!
If you aren’t a sweet tooth, replace the Lemonade with Mineral Water for something a little more refreshing. Simple. Easy. Delicious.
Pour into tall glasses and add a touch of mint for show. Share with friends over good food and good conversation.

Jewels with a Difference

Supporting local design is incredibly important to us and we always get a little bit excited when our creative and talented friends produce something special. We chatted to the gorgeous, down to earth and sun seeking babe Krystle Knight, designer and founder of Krystle Knight Jewellery about her latest collection of fine crystal jewels, her inspirations and love for the never ending summer. Vibrant, energetic and with a smile on her face, here is what she had say..

Congratulations on the success of Krystle Knight Jewellery! What inspired you to go out on our own and create this label?

Thank you, it has all really happened very organically, which is so amazing, it really does blow my mind daily!

After working in fashion wholesale for 7 years, the opportunity came up to start working on something for myself and I took it. It has all been a matter of perfect timing!

What is the ethos behind KKJ? What sets it apart from others out there?

KKJ’s aesthetic is simple, cool and effortless. I am continually inspired by simple styling that shows of the natural beauty of the crystals.

I work mainly with clear quartz crystals, which is definitely my favourite crystal. It is known to be the master healer of all crystals. It works on all areas of the body, awakening, amplifying and transmitting energy, as well as clarifying the thought processes. It is also perfect for removing negative energies & a powerful healing stone for any condition or state of mind. A strong belief in this is what makes KKJ different.

You have worked with some very talented creatives within the industry. Tell us how important that has been to the exposure of Krystle Knight?

I have been so fortunate to collaborate with so many amazing creatives in this industry. What I love about it all, is that everyone is there to support one another and help each other with their brands exposure. It is so amazing to see and also to be involved in. We have a few different collaborations coming up and this is all apart of developing a creative culture and community.

Social media is redefining the way we see style and the way we create style, how has social media impacted your brand?

Social media is really incredible. It allows access to so many talented, creative people from across the world and acts as a platform to connect with like minded people & brands. I have such great support on social media, it truly is amazing, it really has allowed KKJ to grow to where it is today.

The introduction of colour and neon hues in the new collection feels playful and innovative. What inspired you when creating this collection?

I always loved a pop of neon. I don’t go anywhere without my neon nail polish on.

Travelling to different tropical locations growing up, I always found myself coming home with a bunch of neon bracelets on my wrist.

I guess neon really is the epitome of Summer; so it made sense to be able to offer some affordable fun pieces & tie them back with our crystals. You will start to see more neon in our coming collections, stay tuned

Where do you seek inspiration from?

I am continually inspired by Summer (of course) and the elemental beauty of nature. When designing I want to show off the natural beauty of each crystal and transform this into simple, wearable, statement pieces.

We know you are a summer baby just like us. If you could chase the never ending summer where would you start?

My go to spot is always Bali! However, I am spicing things up this month and taking a quick European vacation.

Favourite summer activity?

Relaxing at the beach and Yoga by the ocean.

Fashion Week STREET

And the runways just keep coming at Spring Fashion Week this year. Street Wear is always a favourite with local Melbourne designers showing off their wares to the backdrop of Melbourne’s infamous lane ways. As is Melbourne’s style, the display of Spring collections were eclectic and innovative. Kuwaii, Limedrop, Bùl and Gorman were among the many beloved local talents showing their latest designs.

Virginia Martin opened the runway with label Búl, using earthy tones and clean lines throughout the collection. The use of layering brought a level of femininity to what would otherwise be quite an androgynous aesthetic. Use of delicate linens and crisp button ups, brought an attainable sense of luxe to the range.

Minimalist, elegant and chic was everything Kuwaii this year. Kristy Barber has certainly outdone herself (if that is even possible) with the latest collection clean lined, structured and effortless. The designs combine architectural influences with light tailoring, always maintaining their versatility in function and form. Simple shapes and compositions make this collection graceful and modern.

Limedrop is as always fun, playful and innovative. With geometric printed silks, a mixture of pastels and bold hues, cut out flowing dresses, a touch of leather and sport luxe cropped jackets, the collection has something for everyone. What I love about this label is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Fun and laughter is always the aim of the game and adding a pair of Limedrops rainbow reflective fun glasses to the mix will certainly do that and more.

Gorman mixed it up this year whilst staying true to their bohemian tailored aesthetic. The collection offered a contemporary take on traditional tribal prints featuring playsuits, oversized bomber jackets, asymmetric hemlines and cropped leather jackets.

Healthy Starts

Now I am well aware that every year about this time (post winter), I catch a second wind and decide that this will be my time to get healthy. I guess winter really does a number me. I get sick of being sick and tired of being tired and vow to change my ways. So I have reintroduced one old faithful super food back into my diet. Having an Acai Bowl a day will surely keep the doctor away. Monday Mantras.

Why an Acai Bowl?

An Acai berry is called a super food for a reason. Full of antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids and packed full of Vitamin E, Acai helps to build your immunity, increase your energy and helps to fight any foreign chemicals that may attack your body. If you are like me and have had a good dose of antibiotics this winter, then Acai Berry will help your body to recover and renew.

An Acai bowl is a delicious mix of Acai berries, banana, protein, strawberries and coconut water. What I love about this base, is how filling and nourishing it is. You are getting the benefits of the Acai, plus all of the vitamins and sweet taste of the other ingredients.
Then you get to play with your toppings! The fun part! Add berries, chia, granola, yogurt, kiwi, anything you like! Healthy, fun and delicious. What more could you want in a breakfast or snack?! You will feel sustained for most of the day until your next big meal, which will help you to avoid sugar based or starchy carbs.

Recipe:

Base – Blend ingredients together
4 packs frozen Açaí berry puree – you can grab this at your local health food shop
2 cups of organic coconut water
2 bananas
1 cup organic/natural frozen strawberries/berries (avoid the supermarket variety)
2 tbsp protein powder

Topping- amount to your liking
Granola
Kiwi
Berries
Chia

So if you are like me and have had a rough winter, an acai bowl is such a simple thing you can do for the greater good of your health. Plus look how pretty it is! Who wouldn’t want to eat that!?

Island life: Bali Days

Now you all know that I am a regular traveller to Bali. People often wonder why I travel up to three to four times a year to the island. I guess for me, Bali is like my second home.

After the first trip there, we got over the hype of “tourist Bali” and opted for something a little bit more low key and quiet. The village life. It is simple, wonderful and truly spiritual. Feeling at home, eventually led to my family buying land in a village called Marga (about 45 minutes inland) and as I write this our beautiful Balinese villa is being built. I can only imagine how often I will be in Bali, or whether in fact it will become my new home in the next 6 months. But I know one thing is for certain Bali is in my heart and always will be. That is why I return.

So on my recent trip back to the Island I spent a few days jungle wandering at Pondok Puspa, a beautiful traditional Balinese villa that my family has built in the village. I rode a push bike (lets just say my lack of fitness showed its true colours) around the village and was more than well received, I was welcomed with open arms.

The best thing about being up in the village is that there is no need for eccentricities, no need for opulence, in fact no want for anything but a good meal and good company. And that is what I got. Traditional Indonesian food and quality time spent with my family. Surrounded by palm trees, jungle and rice fields, being up in Marga, Tabanan, truly is the real Bali. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Now whilst village life is serene and certainly healing both mentally and physically, the ocean is just as cleansing for the soul. I have visited many of the beaches in Bali but my favourite is Pantai Geger in Nusa Dua. Fortunately for me I was able to spend an entire day at Gegers new hotel, The Mulia of course in my brand new WAH swimmers from our Odyssey Rising collection. Treated to a decadent and delicious brunch at one of their many restaurants Soleil and then spending all afternoon pool hopping, was simply amazing.

Now I have seen the Mulia go from a pile of rocks on the beach to the worlds “best new hotel” as crowned by Conde Nast in 2013, and I have to say you cannot realise the magnitude and innovation of this place until you actually view it from within. Pools for miles; private pools, big pools, decorative pools, just pools forever and ever. Between exploring the secret hidden spots around the hotel and our brunch at Soleil, the experience was memorable. With free flowing sparkling wine, a selection of ridiculous seafood, tapas, antipasti and deserts, not to mention the gorgeous chefs specials we got to experience. From the beautiful and delicate ravioli to the sweet crab creme brûlée, every aspect of the meal was THE “Foodie” experience. Combine this with sunshine, salt water and fresh coconuts and you really have the perfect day.

For the last couple of days, I decided a villa in Seminyak was the best way to end my holiday. All I wanted to do was relax by a pool, listen to music and enjoy my own space. Hopefully when I return I will see some significant progress on our own villa. Who knows I might just become a regular expat.

But for now, Melbourne is home. Until next time Bali.

CHOCOLATE GOODNESS

Too often will I choose not to have the dessert because I don’t want to pay for it later. But who knew you can have your cake and eat it too with this delicious vegan treat! Vegan Chocolate moose!

How?

GRAB:

1 Avocado

1/2 Cup of raw Cacao powder

Teaspoon of Vanilla Paste

1 Banana

Juice of Half an orange

GET MAKING:

It really is as simple as put all the ingredients together in a blender and press the button.

Add to single ramekins or a serving dish and garnish with almonds.

Add to the fridge to chill. The oils from the avocado and density of the banana creates the moose like consistency.

Simple. Easy. Fast. Delicious.

VAMFF X VOGUE

Melbourne has certainly got off to a promising start with VAMFF collaborating with Vogue to provide what can only be described as architectural monochrome bliss meets street edge.

The runway featured 7 of Australias innovative and talented designers, demonstrating just how good Australian design is at the moment. From Goot, Bassike and Willow to Maticevski each collection fused chic with street perfectly. Monochrome, leather, lace, neoprene were the constants, as was the strong oriental and architectural influences underpinning each garment. With addition of Birkenstocks and baseball caps the styling channelled the streets of New York.

Starting the show with Scanlan and Theodore, the use of leather harnesses with metal accents paired with structured neoprenes set the scene of what was to come. Josh Goot continued his brilliance with monochrome heavy silks and metallic hues. The use of structural elements shone through with sharp angles and square necklines.

Bassike is always a standout and provided an exciting preview into their AW collection. Heavy overcoats, organic wools and cottons, the classic low slung leather pants and oriental inspired hooded jackets, provided what will become a staple to many this winter. The use of layering was also noted adding to the constant architectural theme of the night.

Maticevski combined chic playful elements with structure creating a sense of modesty with an element of wild. The subtle use of pastels and lilacs provided a varied and pleasant contrast to the black white and shades of grey motif of the night.

Vogue certainly put on a show. But lets face it when you combine the killa beats of Queen Bey with brilliant Australian Design success is inevitable.

A Pool Party or two

Do the words pool party get you excited? Don’t you just think of cocktails, sunshine, beach balls, bikinis and dancing? Me too! Which is why I cannot wait for this summer to kick off, with the launch of the coveted Art Series Hotel; The Olsen Pool Club. This is definitely a to do on my list of summer hangs.

We were fortunate enough to attend the opening night of The Olsen Pool Club, in South Yarra Melbourne. Having a fun summer evening that featured cocktails, coconut water and of course our latest collection The Divine, what could be more perfect? WAH X The Olsen Pool Club? A match made in heaven.

Inspired by the decadent, fun and crazy pool party scene of Miami, The Olsen Hotel will be hosting its very own version every Sunday from 2-7pm. The interior is cool, modern and sleek, with the centre bar attracting all the attention. The roof top has fantastic views of the city and if you get bored (highly unlikely) you can play a game of life size chess! So very cool. Expect chilled tunes, good vibes, amazing summer cocktails and of course great company. If you don’t find me at my local beach soaking up the sunshine, chances are you will find me here. So make sure you attend because it will surely be an amazing summer.

It has been said that ‘a summer night is like a perfection of thought’. Considering the euphoric state that summer seems to put me in every year, I’d say that is just about right.

Item/s must be unworn, unwashed and in the original sellable condition. All labels, packaging and hygiene stickers must be attached and in their original condition.

Customers are responsible for organising the shipment of returns including the cost to send the return back to us. WE ARE HANDSOME is not responsible for the shipment of returns and will not replace or process a return that is lost during shipment. We recommend shipping returns through a tracked service.

It is not the responsibility of WE ARE HANDSOME to pay or reimburse customers for any government import fees, taxes and/or charges that may be applied to orders. It is the responsibility of customers to be aware of and pay any such costs that their country may apply to imported goods.

Refunds are made to the credit card that was used to make the original purchase and are for the cost of items only. Shipping costs will not be refunded. Please allow 7 business days for the refund transaction to be completed back onto your card. We will contact you via the email address listed on your order when the refund has taken place.

For exchanges, we will require a shipping payment to be made prior to re-shipment. We will request this payment from you via PayPal. The charges are as follows:

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GARMENT?

Although our garments may make you feel invincible, the swimsuit itself is rather delicate.

Make sure you follow these easy steps to make sure your piece of We Are Handsome stays with you forever!

Use a mild detergent while hand washing it separately in cold water.
Pretty please don’t tumble dry, wring, soak or bleach your garment (that’s just cruel), it’s best to let it dry in the shade.
Try not to leave it rolled up and wet, make sure you rinse it really well after each use, especially if you’re spending a lot of time frolicking in an infinity pool – or a non-infinity pool for that matter!
Please don’t iron or dry-clean it.
Also, try to stay away from rough surfaces as it could cause pilling, and we all know that is not a good look.
