“The best fashion show is definitely on the street” – Bill Cunningham
On Saturday night we stayed in and watched Bill Cunningham New York. And far out, what a fantastic documentary!
For those of you unaware of Bill Cunningham/ the man on the bicycle, I’ll bring you up to speed. Bill Cunningham photographs people and the passing scene on the streets of Manhattan daily. Through watching this documentary you will see he only photographs people who are wearing extraordinary things. Bill Cunningham has a keen eye for fashion and likes to see people steering clear of “cookie cutter” sameness. And I for one have that same outlook. Why would you want to look like 10 million other people when it is so easy to be an individual?

My new model obsession. What a stunner.
While in Sydney the other day (only a short stint), we went to The Rocks to look at the MCA. But not being a Sydneysider, I wasn’t aware that the MCA was undergoing a facelift!! I was quite sad at first, as I really wanted to see some exhibitions whilst in town! Then I realised (after reading some signs) they had exhibitions throughout The Rocks – which seemed even more fun than our initial idea, as it was sort of like a treasure hunt – going in and out of streets trying to find the pieces we wanted to see…
One of the main artists I wanted to see was Tom O’Hern. His work is AMAZING. These low res images really don’t do them justice.
If you saw my apartment you would understand why I am posting on this. My boyfriend is a skater and he loves skateboards. All his old boards still hang around our place, because they essentially are pieces of art. The graphics are always super rad and all the damage marks on the board tell a story of all the boardslides, noseslides or tailslides he did while using that board. What’s cool is no two boards are ever the same. When he showed me this Skate and Destroy sculpture exhibit I was amazed at how the old skateboards were transformed. They look like anything but skateboards. I just continued to look at all the different photos because they looked so rad! I just kept thinking “How on earth did they make these”- the layering of these masterpieces must have taken countless hours!! Continue reading
Introducing SIT – An artist from Amsterdam.
Sit’s background is in painting, graphic design and advertising. Around 2008, he decided to mix things up and head back to his roots and reestablish his work – so he went back to basics and started working with his hands again. Since working with tangible mediums again, he has made some really interesting work. My favourite probably being his latest work from the “Noir” collection. I love his use of black and white acrylic paint and I’m always a sucker for some spray paint art. “Noir” Is all about the troubled relationship between mankind and the animal kingdom. It really lets your imagination run wild. It’s got a sense of sexiness, yet at the same time I can’t help but feel a sense of mild melancholy. Continue reading
UMM, HOLEY MOLEY .
This is incredible. Upon first glance I thought it was something out of a fairytale or someone was a little too clever with the ol’ photoshop. But, after reading about this incredible place I have since found that this tiny little shack in the Indian Ocean is a restaurant, called “The Rock Restaurant”. It is located in Zanibar, Tanzania. “The Rock restaurant” seats 14 tables – all with magnificent view of the vast ocean. How do you get there you ask? Depending on the tides that day, you can either swim, walk, or boat over. Whatever takes your fancy. Personally, I think I’d give swimming over a miss.
I say we all jump on a plane….
Ummm, amazing? I now know what I am doing Saturday crafternoon. This is the best DIY project I have seen in a while. It has just taken my love of vintage china to another level. How did they think to do this? Were they sitting at a tea party one afternoon and thought “Let’s stack all our china on top of one another and add a lamp kit for a li’l somethin’, somethin'”? However they got to that point – it’s pure genius. Continue reading
