Freja Beha Erichsen. She’s the girl at school whose irresistible laughter rings down the hallways at lunch. She’s your beautiful older sister who always lets you borrow her clothes. She’s the girl on the train playing guitar and singing in a sexy, husky voice.
As most of you already know, the We Are Handsome blog is an avenue that we use to share our loves, inspiration and things that generally make us happy, smiley people. This year, we’re amping up the blog and recruiting some of our favourite people to be guest bloggers and share a little of their world with you.
First up is Rebecca Naumovska, PR whiz for Samantha Wills and one of WAH’s all round favourite people. Becc was kind enough to share her favourite Summer destination with us (and make us all insanely jealous in the process!). If you’re ever in Fiji, Wadigi Island seems like the place to be.
Sand between toes, crystal water crashing against (what seems like) perfectly carved stones. Sun glistening with every reflection while palm leaves are being chopped for the next decorative centrepiece at the breakfast table. The “Bula!” greeting by every smiling face as you make your way around the Island barefoot feels like home. A place of privacy, romance and rule-less activity, Wadigi Island is a private haven (literally- no one is on the Island but you and your chosen family or friends) located 10mins by helicopter from Fiji’s Nadi International Airport.
I was lucky enough to visit this magical place with family recently and it is truly extraordinary. Highlights include our boat trip to the centre of the ocean where we hopped in the water to learn how to catch fish with our hands (so we can later eat that evening), midnight story-telling, singing and dancing with the locals at the end of each day…(I think I had a little too much cava)… and a trip to the local village where we received a personal tour of our captain Tia’s home. Here I picked up a handmade and painted fan made out of dried palm leaves from the most gorgeous little girl- which now hangs above my kitchen bench.
A place where the land is life and happiness is within, Wadigi will remain my most special summer place for many years to come.
I will be honest and tell you that Tasmania has never been a destination that makes my ears prick up (a NB for our non Australian, non geographically inclined readers: it’s that small triangular unattached island right down the bottom of our country) but ever so slowly and surely my humble opinions are being transformed. The newest gem I have heard about, Saffire Freycinet luxury eco lodge, had me at 1000 thread count, a call for your reading preferences, fresh squid and a mini bar stocked with local produce, wine & beer…FOR FREE! coughcoughincludedinyourminimum$1500pernightpricetag Continue reading
