Now I know it is summer somewhere in the world, but Australia just kicked into Autumn and Melbourne…..well let’s just say winter has come early. Along with this cold snap has come my winter skin. Yes no longer have I got my sun kissed, salt water loving, luminous skin that summer ever so blesses me with each year. The pasty look is back and no I don’t mean its back in season, it’s more of a back with a vengeance kind of deal. Then comes the dryness of your skin and lips that goes with the cold wind..ouch not fun at all.
For me, I tend to have combination skin, so my beauty products change depending on the seasons. So let me run you down on a few key products I use to try and keep my skin happy in the cold.
Cleanser and Moisturiser: I tend to only use organic products for this part of my beauty routine. Depending on the state of my bank account I will purchase either Aesop or Sukin. Both are amazing and use essential oils to help balance and harmonise your skin. The most important thing for me is that no harmful chemicals, like sulphates, paraben’s or petrochemicals are used. Plus it is always a bonus when you get a product that smells delicious.
Exfoliant: Again I use organic products for this. Depending on my skin I love using Virgin coconut oil from Indah with a bit of brown sugar, as it very vigorous and smells delicious. I also use Aesop’s loose leaf Teatree scrub. I usually pair this with my Sukin cleanser once a week.
Concealer and Foundation: As I said before I have combination skin. Sometimes it can be oily and sometimes dry or hey it may feel like doing both all at once. (Which obviously I am just thrilled about) I know a lot of you will feel the same as me and it can be frustrating jumping between makeups. However I make sure I use a good mineral powder that has lots of Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide and Kaolin. This helps to heal the skin even you have breakouts and does so without drying you out. I use Nude by Natures Natural Mineral Powder or Korres Mineral Foundation which is gorgeous on my skin. However I also get the odd breakouts (even at 25) so I use a Teatree based concealer from The Body Shop.
Lip Balm: I try to avoid anything that has petroleum in it. Petroleum for one is a solvent based chemical, this means you will want to keep putting it on your lips constantly as it is actually drying your lips out and not moisturising them, furthermore who wants to put something on their lips that would go in their car? I am currently using the Sukin lip treatment, as the Calendula and essential oils are perfect for when my lips decide to dry up. Let’s just say it makes me a very happy camper.
Sometimes I feel like I am fighting a losing battle and do the best with what I have. Other times my skin is fantastic and doesn’t bug me at all. All I know, is that winter sucks and I cannot wait for summer to come back. That or I will fly to a tropical destination where summer never stops.
So tell me sweet wanderers, what products are you using?
