Moment & photographs like this give two general reactions: 1. ‘wow that’s a great picture’ and 2. ‘gosh, what i’d give to be a kid again!’
For those of us who grew up in a simpler, safer time, roaming the streets, climbing trees, fences and walls and generally being mischievous – photographs like the above (from the National Geographic Archives) make us feel like we could be 8 years old again at any time. There
was is something about exploring the natural world by yourself, with no boundaries or rules that brings about an air of confidence in nature, and an everlasting (hopefully) sense of wonder for the world around you.
I believe we should keep that wonder long into adulthood. It’s what breeds creativity, love and appreciation for everything we have. The next time you step out your door, take a second to look around, look up and really let wonder sing in. Without it, mediocrity abounds.
