We are insanely proud to present the sixth instalment of The Handsome Project. The Handsome Project features young photographers who blow our mind, shoot our stuff and are all together fantastic. Read on to see the rest of Peter’s WAH photoshoot and interview!
How did you get to here? (What’s your photographer history?)
I did 4 years of bachelor in visual communication at UTS,where I was introduced to film and photography. After that I have been working between Europe and Sydney.
Are you a self-taught photographer or did you have a mentor/teacher that showed you the ropes?
Self taught…Collaborating with different artists and friends over the years has definitely helped me a lot.
How did you come up with the concept behind your Handsome Project shoot?
We wanted to create something that was dark and moody yet clean and simple. We where first thinking about shooting outside but it was raining sideways that day,so the studio was an easy choice.
What keeps you enthused in the photography industry?
It has to be the love of creating something that is yours. When you see the story and the characters come to life, its nothing like it.
Describe your approach in three words.
Honest,curious and fearless!
Black & white or colour?
Both…I have done some shoots determined that I was going to do all BW´s and it ended up in colour and vise versa. So if it works,it works.
Do you prefer film or digital?
Film for personal snaps and digital for work.
Describe your photographic approach.
I always strive for a realness and a believability in my work.
Max Vadukul for his early BW work.Amazing! Paolo Roversi for his mood and light and Greg Kadel for pretty much everything.
What turns you on?
In life – good surprises – in work – even better surprises.
What turns you off?
How do you decide on locations & subjects for your shoots?
It depends on the job and which story I´m trying to tell, but definitely outside if possible. The subject falls in naturally
If you could take your photography in any direction without fear of failure or rejection, where would it lead? What new things would you try?
I love working with more people in the frame, so having endless models and budget would be amazing. We have a few Ideas that we are working on now so stay tuned!
What is the one quality you think is needed for a photographer to be great?
Photographers that stay true to themselves and their own style. I think that’s when you get the furthest.
Where to next?
Im off to the sizzling summer of Europe in July! Ahhhhhhh…
We Are Handsome would like to send major love and congrats Petter’s way for creating this gorgeous photo shoot!
