We’re loving this mix. What was the inspiration behind it?
You guys 🙂 Well, I really fell in love with the sort of retro cosmic aesthetic of We Are Handsome. It made me imagine a free spirited, laid-back girl who is effortlessly rad, oozing sex appeal & feminine mystique.
When did you first get the music bug?
When I was about 6 years old, I remember morning rides with my Dad being painful because he would only listen to the news on AM stations. I would cry and beg him to play music. I think we compromised by listening to classical Opera and orchestra music. It reminded me of all the Disney movies I was always watching at the time. Today I still love it because it’s the music used for all the retro horror movies I’m obsessed with. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I became aware of my obsession with music. I taught myself to play the guitar from the internet (LOL!).
What music did your parents play?
My Dad liked Rock n’ Roll & Disco, some of the musicians he listened to were The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Donna Summers. My Mom liked the 80’s music from Madonna and Cindy Lauper, she also listened to a lot of Salsa music.
Who would you like to play with in the future?
I love so many artists that continuously inspire me. Ultimately I would like to play music festivals like Parklife in Sydney, their 2011 line up is mind-blowing. I would love to play with Crystal Fighters, Digitalism, Duck Sauce, Flaux Pavillion, Gossip, Little Dragon, Tensnake & much more. 🙂
What are the shortest shorts you’ve ever worn?
All my shorts are high waisted and short enough to not show my butt cheeks! (*wink)
What’s the next big thing in music?
Really good question! Music is at a very weird and awkward stage right now, especially in America. Lets take “pop” music out of the equation for starters… I think there is a lot of momentum for Latin influenced electronic music like Cumbia and Moombahton from artists like Dillon Francis, Dave Nada, and Maluca. I also think the Witch House movement is bringing back elements of goth and industrial vibes…
Any cool collaborations coming up?
I just finished a mini mix for Casio’s Baby-G watch. There’s a rumor going around that I MAY or MAY NOT be working on a collaboration between Casio and Hellz Bellz, but I don’t kiss and tell… you’ll just have to wait and see.
Is fashion important to music and vice versa?
Very much! Music has been one of the most significant influence in the fashion world. They both go hand in hand in the runway. Music usually sets the mood, style and story behind any designer’s collection. I can usually tell what type of music someone likes judging from what they wear. Both arts have become so laced up that musicians now use their fame to sell their clothing line, they’ve even became models for magazines where people that admire their music will follow their latest trends in fashion.
Do you prefer a bikini or a one-piece?
I love one pieces, the ones that have a low cut on the back, perfectly high waisted making your legs appear longer and tight on the waist line. They look retro and stylish. There’s also so much more print design you can use in them & they stand out since they’re not very popular.
What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you at a gig?
There’s a lot of room for strange things to happen in the nightlife industry. There’s one gig that by far have been the weirdest, I dj’d at an orgy for the royalty of an Asian country I cant mention. They were way to busy with other “things” to even know there was music playing. It wasn’t a pretty sight but definitely makes for a good story.
What’s your signature drink?
Prometheus Springs! It’s an organic, all natural, SPICY drink made with capsaicin (the stuff that makes food HOT).
