You know we’ve been producing our Handsome Photography Project for almost a year now.
We thought it was time to expand our repertoire somewhat.
At WAH HQ it’s summer all year around, and nothing gets us through summer like an amazing Summer Party Mix.
So here’s what we’re doing:
Every few weeks we’ll be showcasing a DJ who’s made an exclusive WAH Summer Party Mix for us and for you.
We’ll be profiling the DJ, and offering the exclusive mix for listen and download right here and no where else.
Introducing the very first Handsome Mixtape:
With a suitcase full of swimsuits and a Miami slash NYC slash LA summer on the horizon, we were after a little something something to get us in the mood. And who better to set the scene than Aussie DJ Nick Thayer with a hot party mix exclusively for WAH.
We sat down with Nick to find out the inspiration behind the track, the last time he wore short shorts and his stance on women’s swimsuits. So crank the heater, pop on your favourite bikini and click play because it’s time to get your summer groove on.
We’re loving this track. What was the inspiration behind it? I wanted to make a mix of stuff that I’d enjoy listening to at an afternoon BBQ. Nothing too smashing etc.
When did you first get the electronic music bug? I guess when I saw the Chemical Brothers for the first time. Around 1997 I think. I’d been going to a few club nights before that, but their show really blew me away and I ditched the band I was playing in and started messing around with turntables.
What music did your parents play? Everything. Beatles and Stones through to lots of classical stuff. Their tastes were very eclectic.
Who would you like to play with in the future? I’ve been fortunate enough to play with many of my heroes. I always treasure the times now when I get to do shows with mates from the other side of the world. I’m playing at the Canadian Shambhala festival in a bit over a month along with some of my best friends I’ve met through DJing, some of whom I haven’t seen in a couple of years. Gonna be a blast!
What are the shortest shorts you’ve ever worn? Probably my tennis shorts in year eight.
What’s the next big thing in electronic? Moombahton is beginning to gain some momentum. If you haven’t heard it, think dutch house music meets reggaeton. Or at least that’s where the sound originated. Now that it’s been around for a while it’s beginning to evolve and find it’s own place. Essentially it’s a different take on 110bpm party beats.
Any cool collaborations coming up? Loads. But in bond fashion, if I told you I’d have to kill you.
Is fashion important to music? I think these days music IS fashion, in that people use music to define themselves as much as they do with the clothes they wear. The two are certainly inextricably linked.
Is music important to fashion? Well, fashion needs clothes horses right?
Do you prefer your ladies in a bikini or a one-piece? I think both have their place and can look great depending on who is wearing it.
What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you at a gig? Last night we found a pair of girls trousers in the club after the lights were turned on. How the hell do you not notice that you left the club with no trousers in the middle of winter?
What’s your signature drink? Either Grey Goose on ice, or a pint of Kilkenny. Depending on whether we’re in the club or the pub.
