Positive, driven and life-loving Amanda Bisk played a major role in the success of our Fashion Week show. With boundless amounts of energy, Amanda has incorporated all aspects of health and fitness into her life, as a elite pole vault trainer, yoga instructor and cross fit coach. She really has done it all, including bring her A-game to our showcase of active wear in true We Are Handsome fashion: fun and fabulous.
What inspired you to start being active/to be an athlete?
My dad put me into gymnastics when I was 3, so I have been active pretty much all my life! But the thing that inspires me to keep going and to keep living an active life is the way it makes me feel. Exercise gives me strength (both physically & mentally) confidence & the biggest energy boost!
What do you love most about this lifestyle?
I love the way it can unite people. Those little fitness moments when you workout next to someone in the gym and you start chatting, you make friends with someone you always see in your yoga class, saying hello to the people you pass on your morning run or the understanding you have with the person next to you in your bootcamp class. It’s an awesome community!
What is a normal day like for you?
I don’t really have a normal day, my schedule changes all the time! But at the moment I get up at 6:30/7am and go down to the park for a 30min workout, get home and practise a little bit of yoga and stretching, have a shower then pack up my laptop & a note pad and head to my local cafe for breakfast. This is where I work on the computer for a few hours, answer emails, write blogs, research exercise/food journals, work on my website design etc and also work on my next project (at the moment it is a new ebook!). Then I usually go home around 1:30pm, have lunch and then prepare to shoot my worldwide yoga class video. My boyfriend (who is behind all my filming, photos and even website design) will help me shoot my yoga vid which can sometimes take a few hours. Then we might go for a walk along the coast or play some tennis for an hour. I cook up dinner usually at 7pm, then chill out with the TV or some music, stretch in the living room with some candles and slowly wind down for bedtime at 10pm 🙂
How do you balance your time?
I am a big fan of a diary! I use a written diary as well as alerts on my phone. I like to sit down the night before to organise what I will do the next day.
What is your favourite work out?
I love bodyweight circuits and sprinting!
What is your best beauty tip?
Drink plenty of water & eat lots of vegetable & fruit, beautiful clear skin comes from the inside! And moisturise…a lot!!
What do you eat on an average day?
Breakfast: Eggs on whole grain toast with avocado. A long black coffee with a dash of soy.
Breakfast is usually big so I won’t normally eat till lunch. If I’m hungry I will have some vegetable sticks with hummus/guacamole or a handful of dried fruit & nuts.
Lunch: huge salad (tuna/four bean mix, spinach, cucumber, tomato, broccoli, spring onion, carrot, avocado, capsicum, mushroom, dressed with balsamic glaze & lemon) with brown rice, quinoa, or toast on the side.
Snack: fruit with almond butter and some dates.
Dinner: vegetable stirfry with egg, noodles & crushed nuts on top.
Dessert: few cubes of dark chocolate & mango or watermelon.
Favourite work out music/song?
Love hip hop/r&b and dance/house. Ministry of Sound is always a fave 🙂
Your favourite thing to do when you are not working out?
Going to the beach!! I love everything about the beach and outdoors.
Favourite place you have travelled to?
Switzerland. So amazingly beautiful.
Dream place you’d like to travel to?
At the moment, Greek Islands.
Fitness goal you dream to reach?
To pole vault again 🙂
How do you see your future?
I know I will always be in the fitness and health industry. I’ll be travelling and teaching yoga, running & bodyweight training. I want to get involved and understand all types of fitness & learn as much as I can. I also hope to have a fitness and yoga studio 🙂
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
Exercise, fruit & people! I love being around people!
Your favourite photo you ever took?
My favourite beach! It reminds me so much of the beautiful summers back home in Perth Western Australia 🙂
