With 5 years of experience in the fashion industry, it was no surprise when Ally May Carey effortlessly represented WAH’s activewear through her passion for fashion as well as her awesome attitude to a life of health and fitness. Ally defines fashion-forward fitness (so apt to our inspiration in the We Are Handsome office) and is successful in using the strong base in social media that she has created for herself, to promote this to her very supportive fans.
What inspired you to start being active/to be an athlete?
I’ve always lived an active life. As a child my parents had me in basically every sport going and I loved it. We lived in a country town, so weekends were always about sport and afternoons were always swimming training / squad. Because I was such a healthy kid with great role models as parents, it was engrained in me from an early age that you should live a healthy / active lifestyle.
What do you love most about this lifestyle?
I live by the beach with my husband and I love that even after a busy day, we have the solitude of the beach. Living a healthy lifestyle helps with other aspects of your life. It gives me more energy for long days, gives me a clearer head and motivates me when I need it most.
What is a normal day like for you?
A normal day! I’m not sure I have a “normal day”. Each day is always so different – one day I could be shooting, another day I may have back to back meetings, another day I might be interstate working! That’s what I love about my job – it’s always changing.
How do you balance your time?
It’s all about writing lists, planning and making time for the important things. I always make sure I do something with my husband, or if we have been working long hours go for a nice walk to get some fresh ocean air.
What is your favourite workout?
I love strength training – weights, workout bands etc.
A run along the beach is always great too – you don’t need any equipment and you can set your own pace.
What is your best beauty tip?
I know that it’s probably a common one – but it’s seriously what I swear by:
Wash your make-up off of a night – no matter how tired you are
Drink lots of water to flush your system out
What do you eat on an average day?
Breakfast: Porridge or Muesli or Toast with organic peanut butter
Snack: Fruit
Lunch: Salad or Sandwich or Smoothie
Dinner: At the moment I’m loving risotto! My husband makes the yummiest one!
Favourite workout music/song?
I usually make a playlist on Spotify. My workout music is something I wouldn’t generally listen to on a daily basis, but it’s something I can sing along to and have fun with. Workout music is my guilty pleasure… Ha.
Your favourite thing to do when you are not working out?
Exploring, go to the beach or watching scary movies.
Favourite place you have travelled to?
Berlin! I loved the art, the culture and the overall atmosphere. I could easily live there and feel at home straight away.
Dream place you’d like to travel to?
New York and Amalfi Coast! Hopefully in the next year I’ll get to see both! I have so many places I want to travel too.
Fitness goal you dream to reach?
Constant improvements and reaching new PB. Setting personal goals / writing them down is always a great way to reach these – I always tell my readers to do this!
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
Camera, Phone, family/friends. Maybe not in that order.
Your favourite photo you ever took?
JD took a photo of me late in the afternoon in Berlin – spectacular golden light. Without a doubt my favourite.
