We are insanely proud to present the next instalment of The Handsome Project. The Handsome Project features young photographers who blow our mind, shoot our stuff and are all together fantastic. Read on to see the rest of Andre’s WAH photoshoot and interview!

How did you get to here? (What’s your photographer history?)
By accident actually. After studying engineering for three years and not really enjoying it, I decided to look at other options, that would challenge me creatively . Photography was one of them, and I did have some photos I could put together and call a ‘portfolio’… But it was only after I started studying it that I really fell in love with photography.

Are you a self-taught photographer or did you have a mentor/teacher that showed you the ropes?
When I enrolled in the course some of my friends had already been shooting for a while, and I learned a lot from them – I’d say as much as from my tutors. They’re all talented professionals now, whose opinion I respect, and I still like to hear their feedback.

How did you come up with the concept behind your Handsome Project shoot?
I think WAH’s pieces transcend the notion of swimwear – they make a statement. I wanted to remove the swimsuit from its usual surroundings and place it in an urban environment, as part of a summery look. You can even party in these!

What keeps you enthused in the photography industry?
I love being part of a creative process. That one ‘pro’ alone compensates for all the ‘cons’.

Describe your approach in three words.
Light, composition, real.

Black & white or colour?
Both.

Do you prefer �lm or digital? Why?
I really like �lm but digital is a lot more practical, my workflow is 100% digital.

Favourite camera?
My trusted 5D Mk II. I also take a lot of photos with my iPhon

Describe your photographic approach.

I like to have a pretty deï¬�ned idea of what I’m going to shoot and how. There’s obviously room for improvisation as things never go completely to plan, but I like to be prepared. That also includes location scouting and test shots.

Favourite photographer?
So many… Philip-Lorca diCorcia sticks out though. I also love looking at good photojournalism.

What turns you on?
Creativity and passionate, hard working people.

What turns you off?
Egos put me right off.

If you could take your photography in any direction without fear of failure or rejection, where would it lead? What new things would you try?
Rejection is always present, I think what’s important is how you deal with it. I’ve come to realize you can’t possibly please everyone, so I try to do work I’m proud of, that I love. It’s obviously a bit different when you’re working for a client – it’s more of a collaboration, but sometimes working within those restricted parameters forces me to be more creative and often produce my most rewarding work.

Best advice you’ve ever received.
Drink 1.5L of water a day.

What is the one quality you think is needed for a photographer to be great?
Passion. If you’re passionate about what you do, it’ll show in your work.

Where to next?
I have a few personal projects I’ve been developing that I want to dedicate more time to. The style is more documentary than what I usually do, so it’s great to do something a bit different. There’s for example this group of lady pensioners that take part in hydro-therapy classes in Lisbon – most of them live on their own and the classes act more as social events than physical exercise. Their joy is contagious and I have great fun shooting it. It’s also great to see they love the attention!

Delivery in United States

• Delivery is via FedEx Smart Post (with tracking) and generally takes 2-7 business days – it costs $5 USD.
•Express Delivery is via UPS Ground and takes 3 days – it costs $14 USD.
•Lost or stolen postage is not covered by insurance.
•Once shipped, you will be emailed with a tracking number, which may be tracked at FedEx Tracking

 

International

All international shipping is processed via Priority International Shipping.

Shipment is between 3-21 days depending on your location.

Returns

Returns and Orders Policy

    •You must notify WE ARE HANDSOME within 7 calendar days of accepting delivery of the order AND arrange return of the item/s within 7 calendar days after receiving our email authorizing the return.

    •All SALE purchases are final and cannot be returned (including exchanges, credit notes and refunds). We kindly ask that you carefully consider your items before purchasing. Sale returns will only be accepted if the merchandise is faulty or wrongly described.

    • •Item/s must be unworn, unwashed and in the original sellable condition. All labels, packaging and hygiene stickers must be attached and in their original condition.
      •       Please make sure that swimwear is tried on over your own underwear. In the interests of hygiene, we may refuse returns of items where it’s obvious that this hasn’t been done.

 

    •Customers are responsible for organising the shipment of returns including the cost to send the return back to us. WE ARE HANDSOME is not responsible for the shipment of returns and will not replace or process a return that is lost during shipment. We recommend shipping returns through a tracked service.

 

    •It is not the responsibility of WE ARE HANDSOME to pay or reimburse customers for any government import fees, taxes and/or charges that may be applied to orders. It is the responsibility of customers to be aware of and pay any such costs that their country may apply to imported goods.

 

    •Refunds are made to the credit card that was used to make the original purchase and are for the cost of items only. Shipping costs will not be refunded. Please allow 7 business days for the refund transaction to be completed back onto your card. We will contact you via the email address listed on your order when the refund has taken place.
    • Refunds for purchases made through Paypal might be subject to Paypal Fees upon refund. We Are Handsome is not responsible for such fees, which generally represent a small % of the transaction. We cannot reiburse you for suh fees if they are charged through Paypal’s platform.

 

  • •For exchanges, we will require a shipping payment to be made prior to re-shipment. We will request this payment from you via PayPal. The charges are as follows:

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GARMENT?

Although our garments may make you feel invincible, the swimsuit itself is rather delicate.

Make sure you follow these easy steps to make sure your piece of We Are Handsome stays with you forever!

  • Use a mild detergent while hand washing it separately in cold water.
  • Pretty please don’t tumble dry, wring, soak or bleach your garment (that’s just cruel), it’s best to let it dry in the shade.
  • Try not to leave it rolled up and wet, make sure you rinse it really well after each use, especially if you’re spending a lot of time frolicking in an infinity pool – or a non-infinity pool for that matter!
  • Please don’t iron or dry-clean it.
  • Also, try to stay away from rough surfaces as it could cause pilling, and we all know that is not a good look.

RETURNS and ORDERS POLICY

  • You must notify WE ARE HANDSOME within 7 calendar days of accepting delivery of the order AND arrange return of the item/s within 7 calendar days after receiving our email authorizing the return.

 

  • To notify WE ARE HANDSOME, email your proof of purchase, being an invoice or email confirmation from WE ARE HANDSOME, to our customer service team at customerlove@wearehandsome.com .

 

  • All sale purchases are final and cannot be returned (including exchanges, credit notes and refunds). We kindly ask that you carefully consider your items before purchasing. Sale returns will only be accepted if the merchandise is faulty or wrongly described.

 

  • During sale periods where a discount code is used, any orders placed prior to the start time of the sale will not be eligible for the discount. THIS INCLUDES CURRENT SALE: 10TH Birthday Sale

 

  • Item/s must be unworn, unwashed and in the original sellable condition. All labels, packaging and hygiene stickers must be attached and in their original condition.

 

  • Customers are responsible for organising the shipment of returns including the cost to send the return back to us. WE ARE HANDSOME is not responsible for the shipment of returns and will not replace or process a return that is lost during shipment. We recommend shipping returns through a tracked service.

 

  • It is not the responsibility of WE ARE HANDSOME to pay or reimburse customers for any government import fees, taxes and/or charges that may be applied to orders. It is the responsibility of customers to be aware of and pay any such costs that their country may apply to imported goods.

 

  • Refunds are made to the credit card that was used to make the original purchase and are for the cost of items only. Shipping costs will not be refunded. Please allow 7 business days for the refund transaction to be completed back onto your card. We will contact you via the email address listed on your order when the refund has taken place.

 

  • For exchanges, we will require a shipping payment to be made prior to re-shipment. We will request this payment from you via PayPal. The charges are as follows:
    • USA Domestic $10
    • International Express $15 (International costs will be in the relevant currency)

 

  • Due to the select nature of our product, we cannot guarantee the availability of merchandise for exchanges

 

  • Once your return order has been received your order will be processed within 7 business days. During holiday periods/sale seasons it may take longer.

 

  • We do not accept returns from purchases made through our stockists. We can only process returns on purchases that were processed through our e-boutique.

 

  • Stock quantities are not updated in real time, and therefore occasionally an item may be sold out at time of purchase. If you purchase an item that is sold out, you will be notified by email as soon as possible and offered a suitable replacement or full refund.

 

  • Delivery delays may occur during high volume and peak periods or due to unforeseen reasons. During these times, please allow an additional 7 business days for your order to be delivered. Russian/ South African customers may need more patience by reason of the local delivery system and customs­­.
