What do you dream of falling asleep on? For me it’s soft, warm, sand (anyone noticed that you don’t just sleep on the beach you pass the heck out?). For designer Sophie Farquhar it has always been a piece of toast with a buttered sheet and tin spaghetti doona. Introducing…Bed Toppings – Fun for Sleepyheads!

Indonesian-based furniture designer Michael Perry from Walk the Plank has returned home with a fresh container load of furniture that will form the centerpiece of an exclusive show at Sydney’s China Heights Gallery. Titled ‘Casually Approaching Shore’, Perry’s debut collection has been inspired by the concept of casual furniture, which he has transformed into classic handcrafted pieces for everyday use.
While living in Central Java, Perry has stayed true to this environmentally ethical ethos. He works exclusively with reclaimed and responsibly sourced materials like un-seaworthy fishing vessels found along the coast of the Java Sea. These pieces are shaped, refined and crafted into pieces that have their own personality with their own story to tell.
If you’re in Sydney this weekend, head down to China Heights Gallery on Friday 2nd of September from 5pm for opening night – we’ll save you a sundowner.

I am currently looking for the perfect suitcases to make these rad little coffee tables for our new place. I think they’re so cute. What a great way to add that vintage/ quirky feel to your house or apartment in a super easy way! What’s even better is it’s an automatic storage unit as well. As soon as I find what I am after I am going to whip out the cordless drill (when I purchase one). See this is one of the reasons why I hate living in a different state to my father.
If you think they’re cute too, you should probably make one.
What you’ll need:
- straight top plate hardware (4)
- 4″ tapered table legs (4)
- vintage suitcase
- spray paint or stain for the legs
- power drill
- measuring tape
Instructions (it’s not rocket science):
- Turn the suitcase upside down, measure and mark out the four areas to place the hardware.
- Whip out the drill and screw into the hardware
- Screw in the legs
- Give yourself a pat on the back
- Put some rad coffee table books on top and whatever else takes your fancy

While in Bondi on Sunday we took a visit to the local markets. I spotted this really wicked/ eclectic jewelery line called Betty and Cash. Jessica McMullen is the creative genius behind this industrial meets vintage range. She individually creates and hand makes all her jewelery, which makes for totally unique pieces. What caught my eye initially was the simplicity of the geometric shapes and the contemporary designs. Each piece I tried on was so wearable, I really hadn’t seen such original, cutting edge designs in a while. Any rings, necklaces or bracelets I have seen lately has reminded me of other designs, nothing has been truly innovative! The diamond series was my absolute favourite, especially the rings. I can’t wait to head back to Bondi markets next time I’m in town!

Versace has the ability to teeter totter on the edge of tacky vs OMGstunning in a way that leaves me staring at the images for way longer than usual trying to figure the whole thing out…and almost always toppling head over heels in love.

After living out of a backpack for five weeks in hostel-style accommodation, I was in desperate need of some luxurious digs. Don’t get me wrong, its not like my own apartment isn’t nice. There’s just nothing like checking into a hotel suite with water views, fluffy robes, crisp white linen and a rooftop pool.

If laptop cases were seasonal, these Marc by Marc Jacobs varieties would be straight out of his summer collection. Now I’m going to be honest. I don’t usually give a crap about things like laptop cases. When I speak accessory, its fluent shoe, bangle, bag, sunnies or scarf – you catch my drift? But these aren’t exactly your typical department store variety.
