The next instalment of the Handsome Project is one we’ve been looking forward to for a while now. Claire Wallman, who was one of the first photographers to shoot for the Handsome Project, was lovely enough to come back to photograph our Vintage collection. She’s put together a shoot that we absolutely adore and are thrilled to share with all of you! Read on to see the rest of Claire’s WAH photoshoot and interview…

How would you describe your style?
Creative and fun. I love playing with concepts and ideas, creating that story and bringing it to life in the camera.
What fashion label would be your ultimate campaign to shoot?
Honestly I have so many ultimates, but recently I have been drooling over a fellow Australian designer; Style Stalker, campaigns. I Love love love their “Young Hollywood campaign and more recently their campaign shot with Anja Konstantinova (to die for).

What is your strength as a photographer?
Hmmm well I have always had good feedback from my creative team and clients that I interact well with the model. To get the images you need, and have visualised in your head, you need to be able to get this same concept across to the model. As standard as it sounds, communication between everyone in your team is key to get the best out of everyone on the day. I always love to hear my teams thoughts and opinions on what might work better, it’s never my way or the highway.

Who are your influences?
Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Steven Meisel , Georges Antoni …the list goes on.
What is your favourite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Can a model be an accessory LOL. Umm maybe my beauty dish, I tend to use and abuse it ☺

Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph?
Im dying to work with Bambi and Anja Konstantinova. I just love everything about their looks and drool over the campaigns they book/shoot.

Who or what have you learnt the most from?
I assisted an amazing French photographer called Emmanuel Giraud. His ideas/ concepts that he brought to life, had me mesmerised each and every time. I love his work and his magazine – Tangent Mag, which I was lucky enough to be involved with. I learnt so much about lighting, models and how to take control on a shoot.
Do you prefer a bikini or a one-piece?
I have to say I usually go for a two piece when beaching it, but you cant go pass some of these amazing WAH full pieces. I have one in my collection that I love to wear throughout summer matched up with my denim shorts. I am in dire need of the bear full piece – being a Claire bear it’s a bear necessity LOL

Who is your photography muse?
As I have mentioned in an old interview, Tim walker is still one of my all time favourite photographers. His themes, stories and creative geniuses’ that go into each image, just draws me in every time. I get so inspired every time I open his book.
What would be your advice to someone trying to break into the industry?
Don’t give up and be prepared for the hard yards. Oh and most importantly shoot, shoot and shoot. When you get those ideas, don’t just put it in a book and never shoot it. Start planning it ASAP and turn it into print.

Signature drink?
I thought about saying something interesting but I have to say I’m a vodka, soda and fresh lime kinda gal ☺ My theory – with every glass of vodka is a glass of water so it cant be that bad haha. Now who wants to test that theory…your shout?
